Swimming

Since 1960, in the first Paralympic Games in Rome, Swimming has been an event. Like the Olympic Games, the athletes measure their skills in races of freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and medley.

The athletes, of both sexes and who have a physical-motor deficiency, blindness, or visual impairment, are classified according to their functional abilities.

In order for the competition to be disputed by these athletes, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) rules underwent some adaptations, such as optional platforms, starts from within the water, and the use of special signals for athletes with blindness or visual impairment. Prostheses or support equipment, however, are not allowed.
