Equestrian

Equestrian sports are divided into three events: Jumping, Dressage and Eventing (a three-days event).

Jumping is the only Olympic sport in which man and animal form a team, and it is one of the sports where competition is mixed. Penalties occur when the team knocks over or misses an obstacle, refuses to jump, exceeds the time limit, errs on the course or if the rider falls from the horse.

The Dressage event consists of three stages. In the first two stages, the horse and rider perform mandatory movements, such as trots, canters, and pirouettes. In the third stage, a freestyle choreography is performed with music.

Eventing is a combination of Dressage events, Jumping, and Endurance Testing. Endurance Testing is subdivided into roads and tracks; steeplechase (obstacle race) and cross-country (natural obstacles).
