Barra da Tijuca

With a very modern infrastructure, Barra da Tijuca is the area where the development of Rio de Janeiro is directed to. Despite its growth and modern attributions, Barra cannot loose the singular feature of the city: integration with the nature. The area has one of the main beaches of Rio, besides several green areas.

The neighborhood will concentrate 56% of the Olympic installations and will host the Olympic Park, where the modern sportive equipment, successfully tested on 2007’s Pan-American and on Parapan-American games, will be used. The place will include the Olympic Training Center, which already has three installations.

One of them is the Olympic Arena of Rio, a construction for 15 thousand spectators, which will be the center of basketball and artistic gymnastics competitions. Maria Lenk Aquatic Park, always very praised by the athletes who compete on the place, will shelter proofs in three modalities (swimming, synchronized swimming and somersaults) whereas Barra Velodrome, considered the most modern velodrome of the Latin America by several athletes and international leaders, will have cycling proofs (track).

Besides all these installations, other two spaces will be built on the Olympic Park, sheltering 14 competition places. One of them will be the National Tennis Center. The other one will be the Olympic Training Center. On the space, planned to be a sport reference in South America, there will be equipment for up to 20 sportive modalities in 40 thousand square meters of area divided in four pavilions. Thus, the Olympic Park will have competitions of fencing, gymnastics (acrobatic trampoline), hockey on the grass, aquatic polo, handball, judo, wrestling and Greek-Roman wrestling, among others.

Barra also has Riocentro, which received thousands of people during Rio 2007’s competitions. Elected one of the best South America’s convention centers (2002 to 2007 - World Travel Awards), the remodeled and modern construction that is on a 571 thousand meters of area will host competitions of badminton, sportive rhythm gymnastics, taekwondo, box, table tennis and weight lifting.
