ARCHERY

Archery is an Olympic sport based on the use of bow and arrows aimed at a target. It made its debut at the 1900 Paris Olympics and continued up until the 1920 Antwerp Games. Archery competitions were removed from the Games for more than 50 years, and made a comeback at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Both men and women take part in individual and team events. Competitors shoot arrows towards a target with a 1.22 meters diameter and a 12.2 center diameter located at a distance of 70 meters. The arrows can travel at more than 240 kilometers per hour, which requires archers to have steady hands, strong shoulders, flexible muscles, a good aim and nerves of steel.
